Read&Write for Google Chrome is an AT tool designed to support students in literacy.
Please see the video below for an introduction to Read&Write:
Read&Write is a Chrome extension (extensions are small software programs that customize the Chrome browser). Read&Write is a floating toolbar that can be used on the web, or within G-suite apps, like Google Docs.
These are the assistive tools within Read&Write:
- Word prediction
- Picture and word dictionaries
- Text-to-speech
- Speech recognition
- Screenshot tool
- Audio file maker
- Highlighting and highlight extraction tools
- Vocabulary list builder
- Reading fluency tool
The quick reference guide provides detailed explanations of each feature above.
Since Google Read&Write is on the Chrome browser, the assistive technology follows the student (instead of the other way around). So students can start writing at school with Read&Write, then continue to write with support at home.
